I worked a lot for my life until pottery became a job

In April 2019, at her home in Lisa, Stockholm

Tonkachi

What kind of work did you do until you become an artist?

LISA

It's my first job to accept telephone calls only during the summer. She had to transfer the phone that she had lived in a long time to use a telephone exchange to transfer the phone. (smile)

Tonkachi
At that time, it was a modern job, right?

LISA
That's right. She started doing the job after being asked by a nice woman in the same department.

She wasn't hard, so she learned right away. I wonder if her monthly salary was about 25 Crone. However, it is only that summer work. After she went to Yotaboli's art school, she did a lot of work for her life. Cleaning at night or babysitter. Because there was no assistance or scholarship from her parents' house ...

Tonkachi
Is that so! How many kinds did you work?

LISA
She doesn't remember because she's doing too much (laughs). The salary was bad, but it was like making plastic mannequins. Schools have corporate training every year at the end of summer. In the first year, I was told by a glass company about the production process and actually painted. It was fun. Fufu. The glass work is a surprisingly hot, but it looks like the craftsmen carrying some hot glass are dancing like a ballerina (laughs). It's funny! ? Have you ever been to a glass workshop?

Tonkachi
No, not.

LISA
The glass is shaped by breathing into a long stick, but it gets hooked on the process. While a small glass lump breaths in, it turns into a bigger or more vessel! I'm excited. You don't get tired of the process many times.

Tonkachi
When I was listening, I wanted to go and see it! That seems fun! !

LISA
I didn't let me do the glass work, but the dissolved person encouraged me to be a blowing glass craftsman. "I'll tell you properly! You can become the first female glass craftsman in Sweden." I was a little attracted, but first I wanted to graduate from school, and the workshop was hot. (Laughs) I thought it was a hard job for me. In another year, I trained at a famous potter in Denmark. Well, I can't remember the name, but it's very famous and the name is so well -known that tourists come to see. She was making works with stone plastic clay and making unique tableware. She was so enthusiastic that she was working, and it was a fun experience to go abroad called Denmark.

Tonkachi
Denmark should be difficult! ?

LISA
Do Denmarks hate Swedish people? I've made my mistakes as much as I think. (Laughs) Oh, that's right! When I went to Denmark, I went to Upsarai Echevision. It's a pottery workshop, but it doesn't remain anymore. I was making various things surprisingly. There was an excellent female designer from Lithuania, but she was studying a lot because she was making exciting works such as women. It was a valuable experience in four years in college.

Encounter with pottery is "accidental"

TonkachiWhy did you decide to make pottery work?

LISA
It's really a coincidence. She was called by the president because she wasn't particularly majored in college. When she was asked, "Do you want to make any special major?" She didn't even know the existence of a potter at the time, so she was found in a magazine she was in her head. I answered "fashion illustrator". Then she told the president, "All the girls say so," and she was very embarrassed. He should think more and give another answer. After that, she was put into a pottery major without permission. Perhaps nobody wanted it. I think it was like, "This child should be here for the time being." (Laughs) There were only four pottery classes ...

Tonkachi
But as a result, it was good to go there!

LISA
That's right. Strangely, the moment I entered the workshop and smelled the incense of clay and pots, I realized, "Oh, I can do it comfortably here." She may have felt something special since then.

Tonkachi
Everyone says that no one can do professional work from the beginning, but he will grow up and become a professional. When did you come to LiSA?

LISA
Perhaps it was quite early to feel it. The classroom and workshop do not close because of the privilege of students at universities. And because the workplace was in the basement, nobody, such as the janitor, could not be seen. I was able to work freely, ate rice and returned, and returned at 12:00 in midnight at 1 o'clock. Ceramics take a lot of time just to learn how to turn the potter's wheel. In that sense, the school valued independence, so I was just able to practice and study. I remember that I and the other were particularly stubborn and practiced in the ceramics class. The classroom next door was a textile major, and there was a classroom for silver engineering nearby, so I was attracted to "I wonder if I should have majored in other classes?" The answer was the right answer. I was able to go to college for five years if I was willing to go, so I thought, "I'm another year ...", and there was a contest from the Scandinavian art university where Sweden, Norweg, Finland and Denmark were gathered at the time. I received a letter from the judge, Stig Lindbelli, saying, "If you like, why don't you train in Gustavsberg?" But Gunnal just got an atelier while going to college, and I had just signed a contract to get the atelier, so I had no intention of leaving Yotaboli. Later, he was backed by Gunnal's university professor, Elder Namis, who is also a respected artist. I was worried, and there were so many wonderful artists, so I lent my atelier to my friends and decided to move to Gustavusberg! When it was 26 years old, it was so fast. (smile)

Tonkachi
That's a great timing!

LISA
I'm really lucky to get a lot of opportunities. I wonder if I spent my unfortunate childhood, and now I have a good life. (smile)

Tonkachi
That's because I was talented!

LISA
I was incredibly lucky!

Even when it is difficult, it will flow there,She was just immersed in making the work

Tonkachi
I think you may sacrifice something at first to do what you like. Is there anything she sacrificed?

LISA
I wonder if sacrifice or that I really had little income. I'm laughing. But, well, I left myself to the flow of life. The writer of my generation has a strong image that "selling is bad, and selling something that is not sold very much" is strong. Maybe you remember listening ... (Laughs) In the past, all the members of the crafts community did not admit my work. What I made at Gustavsberg was selling well, so I guess I was mistaken for making a lot of money. Actually, the painter and the male designer had a higher salary, and I didn't get so much that there would be no lower salary anymore. Only 500 crone a month. During the day, I just lost my job to go to a dentist, etc., but I was drawn from my salary. The salary was really low.

Tonkachi
I want to ask, "Where is the Swedish equality spirit!?"

LISA
That's right! Young boys who are new employees and graduates from Gei University were far higher. Some of them may have raised their salary, but I didn't go up at all. I didn't ask because I knew it was useless even if I negotiated. I wonder if it was an opportunity to learn that it would be okay if I had the minimum necessary income to live.

Tonkachi
What is your "secret of life that doesn't sacrifice anything"?

LISA
Hmm. That's right. I'm not sure, but maybe I always enjoy it. I'm always excited to imagine actually making the work I draw in my head. Of course, there are times when you are full of confidence depending on the mood at that time, but sometimes you think that all the works you have made are useless. Occasionally, open the kettle and say, "Oh! This is well done!" It's just recently, but it's not so bad if you look at the work you didn't want to see! It's not good! I thought The work I didn't like before was hitting a hammer.

I can't make a work that sells. I'm always thinking about making ideas

Tonkachi
It's a waste ~ How do you catch the "money for money" to get at work?

LISA
I met Gunnal when I was just 28 years old. Gunnal was much smarter than me, and she taught me a lot of money. When he created a company, I decided to become an artist without thinking about anything economical, and decided to decide and start working. When Gunnal opened a small workshop with his brothers and made a show window or signboard, he said, "I don't work for money, no matter how poor it is, no matter how poor it is. I'm always working for the job I feel. " Make what you want to make, not for money! But in this industry, if you don't try to sell it, you'll lose your work. In that regard, my work sold well. I didn't imagine it at all, so I was lucky. But nobody knows if it sells, and it will surely sell! I can't make it while thinking. Until now, there were many famous department stores and shops in the shops, but they are carefully set and purchased by saying, "This series can be sold! That dish is good!" of. It's a long time ago. A long -established department store's elderly sales manager said, "I'm confident and sell it! I want it!" I remember well.

It is true that I became tired as I got older. But as an artistThe root part has not changed

Tonkachi
What do you think about the work and the popularity of LiSA yourself?

LISA
Well, I'm not sure, but when I get old like this, I feel painful. I used to be happy in the past. To be honest, the number of things that I want to be free now has increased. If you are physically strict, you should be happy to be asked to write a word on the radio, but I feel a little painful. Nevertheless, I'm really happy and happy because I get a lot of letters and feel that I feel love or have a positive influence on someone.

Tonkachi
Is there a big difference between her past works (work) and the current work (work) for LiSA? How do you feel when you see a past work now and when you look at your current work?

LISA
I don't think the direction and how to convey the work have changed significantly. I make it naturally. However, while she has been challenging various techniques, it is inevitable that the atmosphere of the work will change a little. I changed a large block with a thread and then changed the statue, how to turn the potter's wheel to make a U -type, and the type of clay. However, the essence of the way of expression should not be the same in the past. I always go out with a sketchbook, draw a theme I wanted to make, such as the scenery of the town, the situations I saw on TV, the play in the theater, the dance pose, etc. It comes. But most of them change a lot from the image I drew. There is no theory in making my work, so I'm looking forward to it until it's done. When the work is completed, I'm always going to hear Gunnal. I listen to it every time, so I can hear the impressions that I got.

Tonkachi
I'm envious of a good advisor nearby. By the way, do you feel the worthwhile work other than "income" or "popularity of the work"?

LISA
I'm really happy when my artist who understands art is recognized. From those who didn't think they would praise me.

It is natural that there is an ups and downs of human beings. That's why I took care of it and walked as I went

Tonkachi
Work is a fight against pressure, and it can be motivated. How is Lisa dating pressure?

LISA
Almost thanks to the pressure is like a work. A lot of ideas come out, but the pressure is erased. It's an indispensable element, but I don't like the pressure too big because nothing is born. (smile)

Tonkachi
Have you ever wanted to work or quit?

LISA
Yeah, of course. Sometimes I sometimes want to do something completely different. Especially when I started, I wanted to try the textiles I was worried about. The clay is dragged and heavy, and the color changes depending on the temperature of the pot. I also hate the troublesome aspects of pottery ... The moment when the textile fabric was completed was interesting, and I thought it would be easier to use textiles. Both Japan and Sweden are glass, trees, textiles, and any material are the top quality, so the creator soul is often tickled.

Tonkachi
By the way, why are you still working now?

LISA
It may be strange, but I don't want to quit my job. There are still many ideas, so I want to make it. So I'm continuing. That's it.

Believe more yourself.Don't forget the challenge

Tonkachi
A message to a person who is worried, "I wonder if I can find a job that makes my life fun."

LISA
It's a dilemma. I have met a lot of young people, but many people think they can't do anything even though they have various talent. I don't know what kind of advice is qualified, but maybe I have to believe in my ideas and keep working hard. And it is also recommended to get opinions from those you trust to realize. The advice from me will surely be useless. (Laughs) Also, I feel that many people can't take action. It is very important to be a talented musician, but it is very important to continue, have your own thoughts, and actively. Well, it's not always right ... It's difficult to give advice. Gunnal, what would you answer if you were?

Gunnar
e?

LISA
What would you answer if you have an art talent?

Gunnar
That's right. You should have yourself strongly.

LISA
We have three children, but I feel that both are full of art. The eldest daughter, Johanna, was very good with all five as a high school student, and she was good at drawing handicrafts and illustrations such as sewing and knitting. She didn't decide her future dream. One day, an acquaintance living in Canada asked Johanna for a baby sitter for summer only. She was just graduating from school, and she was happy to take on her, saying, "I did it! I haven't decided what to do anyway!" She hasn't decided on school yet ... She had a free time for a year, so she worked as a baby sitter during the day and studied art at night. She met her husband's Jimmy in California, USA, before she returned, and they lived in Pakistan for a year in India for a year. At that time, she was surprised when she was contacted. She said, "Would you like to send my previous work to Stockholm University of the Arts and apply for a graphic designer course?" We didn't even know the word graphic designer, but Gunnal decided to apply to the university safely. I still don't know why I chose a new genre called graphic design.

Tonkachi
At that time, was it a new and novel thing?

LISA
That's right. Then Johanna went to college with her major, married after graduation and moved to Scotland. She had a graphic design company, but she didn't work. Her husband, who was working for her teacher, was feeding her. At that time. What offered to work from Japan? She was reluctant to say, "This looks fun!" When I thought it was difficult because I didn't have enough time, she said, "I don't want to miss this chance!" I'm glad I was doing that, and I'm glad she's making various things based on my illustrations.

While continuing to cherish lifeI want to keep making works

Tonkachi
Do you have a daily habit? Please tell me why you are continuing again.

LISA
I used to do qigong every day. I've been taking a rest these days, but I'm thinking of starting again. It fits your body and is very good.

Tonkachi
Do you sometimes enjoy cultivation such as green?

LISA
While watching the catalog recently, I was thinking of raising tomatoes by the window. And I wonder if the flowers are good at this window. But I forget watering. It may not be very suitable to raise something.

Tonkachi
Is there anything you are waiting for now?

LISA
Based on what I sketched, I would like to make something that feels "really good!" A lonely material that has never been used yet. Even now, I get offer from many companies in Japan and overseas, and there are various requests such as glass, wood, textiles, and pottery. There is a lot to do. I don't know how far I can do it, and I don't know. (smile)
