Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA in 1940. After graduating from college, she moved to New York and started working as a picture book writer. She published her first picture book in 1966. Her simple lines, spiritual and philosophical stories influence beyond the children's book. She wrote a novel after 1989. In her later years, she wrote stories and poems about nature and heaven. She died on her 77th birthday in 2017.
