[About this book]

The turbulent 1970s was when talking about music was about expressing and acting. The biography of legendary rock critic Leicester Bangs, who lived and died in the midst of it;It has been released as a book in Japan. Until one, the most unscrupulous man created "Rock and Roll as Literature/Literature as Rock and Roll as Rock and Roll"!

"Lester Bangs: The Legendary Rock Critics, The Words and Life" is a record of the careful pursuit of the life of a legendary man, from his oppressed childhood to his prominent rock critic and sudden death. Its unique expression, which is said to be impossible to translate, its unparalleled passion for music, and its hopelessly sad charm that makes you cry despite its aggressiveness.

Even now, more than 40 years after his death, Leicester Bangs continues to remember people as a scarred hero who seriously confronts music. Whatever touched upon those words was something completely different from before that, just like touching on real music, real literature, and real youth.

An improbable rock critic who has defined and praised "punk rock" and "heavy metal" and poured the same amount of love and hatred. In English-speaking countries, his style of criticism is recognized as a place of achievement, but in Japan, he has not previously published books and is hardly known. This book is the first to fill that void. The publisher will also be publishing a collection of reviews by Leicester Bangs himself.

[About Leicester Bangs]

Leicester's career began in college when he applied for a project to recruit album reviews from readers of the magazine Rolling Stone. His wild language and extremely sharp writing, which he developed on his own, attracted popularity and established himself in a niche position with Rolling Stone. He continued writing for Rolling Stone until 1973 when he was fired for "injuring the musician."

Later, the magazine "Creem" contributed, and the noisy and radical criticism never stopped. One day, during a concert by the American rock band J. Geils Band, they went on stage with a typewriter in hand, and while being watched by the audience, they performed with criticism, slamming the keys in the rhythm. FHe contributes to a variety of publications, including usion, Playboy, Penthouse, New Musical Express, Phonograph Record Magazine, and Village Voice. In 1982, he ended his life at the young age of 33 due to an overdose of drugs.

In 2000, the late Philip Seymour Hoffman was in the film "Around the Times of Penny Lane."Leicester BangsHe played the role. New York punk band Ramones andHe is also considered the most important band in the world.REM's Michael Stipe sang his name affectionately in the songs, while author David Foster Wallace dedicated his first co-author, The Signifying Rappers, to Leicester. This book was the source of the New York Public Theater performance "How to be a Rock Critic."

[About Jim DeLogatis (author)]

Born in 1964. American music critic, journalist and university associate professor. Co-host of Sound Opinion, the world's only rock and roll talk show.He contributed to the Chicago Sun-Times for 15 years as a pop music critic.

He is a drummer himself and has been a member of numerous indie rock bands since the early 1980s. Currently, Punkorio Vortis has been active since 2000, and recently released his seventh album, "This Machine Kills Fascists" (now available on records from Cavetone Records, and can also be streamed on Spotify). He is like Leicester,Rolling Stone Magazine was fired for writing negative criticism while in office. There is.

When he was a high school student who was an aspiring journalist, Leicester was the person he chose to interview with because he was asked to "interview with my hero." When asked by a high school student, "What is good rock and roll?" Leicester was silent for a while, and replied, "It's not rock, it's fine, it's a movie, it's a way of dealing with things. It's a way of putting yourself in life." He then signed his book, which had the discount stickers offered by a high school student, saying that it was still out of stock. "Go to the gym, it's your turn next. Do your best. Leicester." This was the trigger for writing this book. It was two weeks before Leicester passed away.
