Ask Jenni.

In August 2023, we interviewed Jenni Tuominen, who was ahead of the work exhibition "Sarugaku -cho, Shibuya -ku, a forest without king."

The forest after that

Are you still going to the forest?

I went to the forest to pick up mushrooms yesterday. I found a basket full of Delicata and Shuntorel. I like walking and finding mushrooms by walking in the forest. Today I'm going to pick the blueberries and bake the blueberry pie. Frozen in preparation for winter. There is a mix of fun and convenience.

What is it like in the forest?
The forest is peaceful and restful. I like listening to sounds in the forest. Listen to the birdsong and the trees. I feel that all of the five senses are sensitive. Awake. I listen to it because I have a sharp hearing. What is happening around you? The scenery of the sound in the forest is different from that of the city. It's peaceful and I feel quiet at first. After a while, the sound of the forest itself begins to be heard. Trees and wind sounds. Animal cry. I like going to the forest. There is only peace there. Go to the forest if you have any trouble. To calm down.

How have you spent the past year?
I did a lot of work this year. Interesting projects and fun projects. Sometimes I took a lot of rest and made a new work, and I had time to relax with a cottage.

What I noticed in that.
It's completely different every year, and I can't compare it, but I'm happy. I am grateful for being healthy and the desire to create art.

Have you ever had any strange experience in the past year?
A year ago, the iPad broke. It was broken when I thought I was relying on digital devices. I don't have a smartphone, I have an old Nokia mobile phone, but I can't access the Internet. Many people think it's strange.

Forest without king

Did the forest fairies change?
It has changed completely (laughs).
In this exhibition, we made a bold and bold character. I didn't want to be a very cute child. I feel that these works give more questions and ideas to the viewers.

I was inspired by Jugend Style (Jugendstil, which refers to the German -speaking end -of -century trends in the magazine of the magazine published in 1896) and Nordic folk tales. 。 Among them, the grandmother with a twig who was particularly interested. Someday I might make such a work.

What do your forest fairies want?
The fairy in my forest wants to be bold and original. They have their own will. But it's kind and kind.

What does this exhibition mean to you?
I wanted to make a bold character. In particular, "Butterfly Girls" was a new character in my art. I was strongly moved by old animal picture books, plant picture books, and rural scenery.

Has the relationship with the work changed?
That the work has increased personality. The cuteness is good, but in order to maintain interest in the work itself, it may require more ingenuity.

How much will you be your work?
Sometimes I see myself in my work. Especially chubby clay women remember themselves. I am fascinated by the primitive things like Villenzuru's Venus (a female naked statue of the Paleolithic discovered in Austria in Austria in 1909).

What kind of forest is the "forest without king"?
It is an imaginary forest where various creatures live peacefully. While caring for each other. A place where everyone lives well and has no conflict.

What role do you play in the forest?
I will be a wizard or a person who heals people. I want to be a child who uses wonderful magic. Become wise and give good advice to people living in the forest. Help people in trouble with the healing power I have.

Dreams, freedom, children, truth.

Please tell me about the dream I recently had.
I've had a dream somewhere high. I was scared at a high place. I don't like high places. Such places are too exciting.

Do you have a dream to repeat?
A dream in a big department store. There is a museum on the first floor of a department store, and there is a large sculpture. I look down at it from above while grabbing on the railing. Sometimes I wonder why I can imagine such a rich imagination in my dreams. It's like a movie, and there are many detailed details. I think you should sometimes write your dream diary. I think it's fun to record.

When do you feel that you are living in reality?
When my feet are on the ground for everyday things, I realize that I am alive.

When do you feel free?
When making shape with clay. When you're focusing on the process without thinking about other things. I also feel the same when swimming in the lake or entering the sauna.

Do you have anything to remember when you were a child?
I remember a lot when I was a child. I went to eat mushrooms with my mother, I went to a long sandy beach, a porcelain field, a poppy field, a lot of copenhagen, and a huge cotton candy tree.

What makes it easier as you get older.
As you get older, you become smarter and have more experience. I can sympathize with the elderly. There are traces of life in them. I want to keep making works for a lifetime. That's because it's important after my husband Yucca. We want to have a happy old age together.

What is the truth?
I want people to listen to others from the front. I think it's important to tell more people as they are, without lying or distorting. I think it's true not to distort.

Recommended, hope, a deer that runs through.

Where do you want to recommend to those visiting Finland?
I recommend my hometown Polveau. It's close to Helsinki and it's the best place to go sightseeing.
It's easy to go from Helsinki. If I invited a customer to Polveau, it would be like this. First of all, I take a forest bath in Shikosale, which I call the "fairy tale forest". After that, I went to dinner at a nice restaurant somewhere and then swim at Lake Tervayalvi.

Please tell me the episode you laughed recently.
My husband Yucca is an interesting person. It makes me laugh every day, and I say joke. Also, I watch animal videos every day and laugh.

What are your favorite words?
My favorite word is "Thank you". I think it's important to say thank you, and I think so too. Compassion for others. Sometimes people feel thank you. If someone is grateful, it will be pleasant for me. I feel like I'm successful with something. I think it creates something.

Please tell me about your favorite movie.
I like adventure movies and science fiction movies. Probably my favorite movie with an interesting atmosphere. Jack Tachi's movie has humor and comedy. I often watch TV programs. Elcul Poirot is the most special. I can not get enough of this. This is the best program I know. I often see it before going to bed. I also like Miss Marple. Sherlock Holmes, Geves and Woster, and Falty Towers. I love British humor.

If you want to make a movie, what kind of work would you like?
Is it a historical thing or the future? A adventure movie where women are the leading role.

Last time, when I asked how to spend summer vacation, you said: "That's right. I like gardening, flea market and swimming. I swim twice a day. I also ride a bicycle and eat ice cream. " It's like a child's summer vacation. Are you still spending the same summer?
This summer I had a lot of work and I couldn't be in cottage. I want to spend that summer next summer. The summer in Finland is short, so I want to enjoy it. I'm going to swimming now. My favorite place is a small lake near a house called Telvayalvi. I still go to the flea market. It's like a treasure hunt. I also liked strawberries, and this summer I often ate strawberries and peas. Finnish berries are said to be the best in the world.

Please tell me what you are interested in now.
It's hard, but I like to care for the garden. I made a new cultivation box this summer and planted a lot of flowers. It's fun to watch the growth of plants. In the fall, you can eat vegetables and berry that you have grown up.

What I am most worried about is climate change. I want people to enjoy the outdoors without being affected by climate change. I'm sad to see people, animals and nature suffering.

Finland is said to be a forest country, but I can't say that. There are many forests here, and even old forests are hardly left. Sometimes people think that they may not take climate change seriously and deny it. I think I have to protect nature at the world level and give a chance to posterity.

Please tell me a special episode.
Last fall, when I was taking mushrooms in the forest, I heard a loud noise next to me. When I was surprised to hear it too close, at that moment, the deer ran right beside me. I was very surprised for both the deer and me. But at that moment, it was too beautiful and a magical -like dream.
