In June 2024, we interviewed Marina before the second work exhibition in Japan, "Why am I in this place?"

T
You said in a previous interview, "When you draw a picture, take a step from the sculpture and think about the picture when you sculpture." Is that so now? Do you have anything to say?

M
My atelier is made in an L -shaped shape, on the other hand, the painting corner, the other is a sculpture corner. My paintings are often big, so I need to look away to check the overall composition. At that time, you will see the sculpture. I usually start a sculpture in the morning and start painting in the afternoon. However, if you find a sculpture while drawing a picture, you often find new ideas and shortcomings that need to be corrected immediately. The color of the sculpture is also influenced by the color of the picture drawn at that time.

T
You are a quiet observer. It looks like a drone or an animal -shaped Android, which looks like an objective image without emotion. But you make a sculpture, you seem to be active and full of emotion. Please tell us your opinion about this impression.

M
My vision as a painter is almost the same as that of a naturalist. Relatively faithful to the motif. Nevertheless, paintings represent one perspective. The focus is on the affection for nature and the animal world. Sculpture work is directed to humans. In many cases, it is about society. My sculpture talks about a small story, which is like a fable and caricature. Appears in a scene where animals appear, and the audience recognizes their existence. That is important for me, and the rest is the continuation of the interpretation and the story.

T
The paintings are specific, and the sculpture looks more abstract. What does concreteness and abstraction mean to you?

M
Specific things can be touched, are often universal, telling many people the same. On the other hand, the abstract is left to the interpretation. The audience plays the role of an abstract work. The audience themselves tell a part of the story.

T
Please tell me how the inner surface will change depending on the fun of drawing nature.

M
Nature, animals and plants are elegant. The shape is full of curves and decorative properties. Drawing this is my joy. Nature gives me a very comfortable and free composition. Drawing nature is too modern for me. It can be said that it is a world testimony that transcends the times. The landscape will be my theme beyond the decoration that is just covered with nature. I draw a wooden portrait. Captures the animals acting in the foreground. Drawing them is like a turbulent adventure without bothering anyone.

T
At our request, we had a wolf in the wildfire. Please tell me anything about this picture.

M
I love drawing fire. In the first lockdown of 2020, I drew a small burning forest. Fire has always attracted me. For me, fire is like a swan song. It further enhances beauty while expressing the ephemeralness of beauty. Regarding the wolf, the gallery finally gave me the opportunity to draw it.

T
Please tell me about your recent situation. How did the children change? What kind of changes have you changed every day or creation?

M
The first son, Caelig, is 5 and a half years old. He spends a lot of time in the atelier. I love talking to him and I love his interpretation. He gives me a proposal regularly, but the idea is getting smarter and smarter. He's getting better and better, and the paintings are becoming more and more real. At home, there is a wall for his exclusive exhibition, and one of the bookshelves is a place for his sculpture exhibition. He regularly donates his work to school teachers.

The second son, Eron, is two and a half years old. He has recently come to the atelier and always wants to work near me. Three weeks ago, I was making a rabbit model. There was another clay rabbit next to him by cutting his clay a little and handing him. I regularly focused on him, making Ero loan as free as possible. When my sculpture came into shape, when I noticed, Erone made a small clay ring and pasted it on a rabbit, which became the rabbit's eyes. It was a great moment!

Two years ago, I moved to a place 80 km away from Paris. Now I live in the countryside surrounded by forests. By being in a rich environment where you can meet many animals every day, my job is calm, more efficient, more ideas, and more established. Enjoying the loneliness of the new environment has gained a greater creative freedom.
